Demi Pair Responsibilities and Pocket Money
As a Demi Pair, you’ll typically assist the host family for 15-20 hours a week outside of your study hours, with at least one full day off each week. In return, your host family provides a room, full board (three meals a day, seven days a week), and $80 pocket money (based on 15 hours) weekly to help with expenses. Your duties may include light housework, some cooking, and childcare, essentially being that “extra pair of hands” the family needs.
Additional hours may be arranged with your host family, with pocket money ranging from $12 to $15 per hour for every hour beyond the required 15 hours weekly.
Requirements:
To apply, you must submit:
- A fully completed Demi Pair application form.
- A current police clearance or certificate from your home country. *
- Eligibility for an Australian Student Visa or working holiday visa.
- A completed medical form/certificate from your Doctor stating your clearance to work with children on a cultural exchange program. *
- A copy of your international driving license (if applicable). *
- A copy of your passport (valid for at least six months beyond your departure date from Australia). *
- At least two references from former employers or non-relatives regarding your childcare experience.
- A cover letter and photos introducing yourself to prospective families.
- First Aid Certificate (recommended).
- Any relevant certificates you may hold (e.g., Childcare, Swimming/Life-saving).
- Intermediate level of English or above.

To Apply:
- Submit online application
- We will then contact you to arrange a video call to confirm your suitability for the program.
- You gather your documents and provide to your local agent.
- You receive a local family profile for you to arrange a video call with.
- If offered placement and agreed, we send you the documents to confirm.
- You book your flights and keep in regular contact with your host family and look forward to your Australian adventure!
Placement Fee:
Upon acceptance of a placement with a family, you’ll be charged a placement fee of A$700.
Please note that refunds are not available for change of mind. In the event of needing to be relocated to a different family (subject to availability), there is a fee of $150, and you may need to fund your own accommodation costs for the remainder of your placement (unless a replacement family is available.)
Arrival in Australia:
Upon your arrival, we’ll assist you with:
- Orientation, including agency expectations.
- A training manual to guide you in your new role.
- Assistance with completing the forms for the Working with Children Check (compulsory for Demi Pairs in Australia).
- Answering any last-minute questions or concerns.
- Providing contact details of other Au Pairs/Demi Pairs to facilitate friendships.
Please note:
It’s your responsibility to arrange and cover the costs of travel and visas to and from Australia, as well as your own travel and medical insurance. Ensure you have sufficient funds for additional expenses during your stay, such as transport to and from school and mobile phone costs.
